Position Summary
The Biomedical Cleaner is responsible for ensuring a clean, sanitary, and safe environment across mobile clinics, safe spaces, and associated healthcare facilities. This includes the specialised cleaning, packaging, labelling, and handling of biomedical waste in compliance with national health, safety, and environmental regulations. The role involves both routine and emergency cleaning duties, supporting infection prevention, and contributing to the efficient operation of healthcare services.

Key Responsibilities
•⁠ ⁠Clean medical and non-medical areas including mobile clinics, reception areas, stock room(cold room), and safe spaces.
•⁠ ⁠Handle, package, label, and transport biomedical/pathological waste to designated collection sheds.
•⁠ ⁠Clean and disinfect medical waste containers, clinical equipment, and designated waste storage areas.
•⁠ ⁠Operate and provide backup support for autoclave/shredder units used in the disposal of biomedical waste.
•⁠ ⁠Conduct and document daily removal, transportation, and disposal of biomedical waste in compliance with regulatory standards.
•⁠ ⁠Perform minor biomedical spill clean-ups using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and decontamination procedures.
•⁠ ⁠Distribute biomedical waste supplies and ensure all collection points are fully stocked.
•⁠ ⁠Conduct inspections of facilities to monitor cleanliness and compliance with infection control protocols.
•⁠ ⁠Train and support staff in correct waste segregation and storage practices.
•⁠ ⁠Assist in preparation for internal audits and compliance inspections.
•⁠ ⁠Provide cleaning services during events, outreach activities, and while preparing meeting or boardroom spaces.

Minimum Requirements
•⁠ ⁠Grade 8 qualification (Grade 12 Certificate is an added advantage).
•⁠ ⁠Minimum 2 years of experience in a cleaning or sanitation role, with preference for healthcare or laboratory settings.
•⁠ ⁠Certificate or knowledge in hazardous/biomedical waste handling is preferred.
•⁠ ⁠Ability to use a variety of cleaning and disinfection equipment and products.
•⁠ ⁠Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and public holidays as required.

Required Skills and Competencies
•⁠ ⁠Understanding of general hygiene and sanitation standards, particularly in healthcare.
•⁠ ⁠Familiarity with biomedical hazard symbols, waste labeling, and packaging procedures.
•⁠ ⁠Ability to comply with Department of Health regulations and infection control protocols.
•⁠ ⁠Good communication and basic literacy skills for documentation and compliance logs.
•⁠ ⁠Computer literacy (basic understanding of MS Excel and Word is an advantage).
•⁠ ⁠Reliable team player with strong attention to detail and safety procedures.
•⁠ ⁠Ability to work in confined spaces, wear PPE, and handle potentially hazardous materials
